What is a license plate lookup?
A license plate lookup resolves a US plate number and its state to the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car wearing it. Once Orto has the VIN it can decode the year, make, model and trim, and pull the vehicle history records tied to that specific car. Orto returns vehicle data only, never the registered owner’s personal information.

Yes. Orto resolves a US license plate to a VIN and returns the full specifications, open NHTSA safety recalls, NCAP crash-test ratings, owner reviews, market value and an A-to-D Trust Score without charge. Only the full NMVTIS vehicle history report, which covers title brands, salvage, total loss and odometer records, is paid.
What does an Orto vehicle history report include?
An Orto report draws on NMVTIS, the US Department of Justice title system, and covers title brands, salvage, junk and total-loss records, odometer readings and rollback checks, ownership and title history, and lien and theft records. It is delivered in the app and as a PDF you can hand to a buyer or a seller.
